Custom Food Lab brought the concept of community feasts to Folkestone Harbour Arm’s East Yard in May 2019, with our first large scale outdoor meal, hosted by Eritrean artist Aida Silvestri. In collaboration with neighbouring vegan restaurant Dr Legumes and on site brewery and sourdough bakehouse Docker Bakery, we cooked menus that had been created, suggested and in some cases taught to us by our artist hosts, sourced from their own memories and family archives. Each meal has explored the food of a culture resident in Folkestone and shared it with up to 120 people, alongside music, dancing and community celebrations.
Tickets are sold on a “Pay What You Feel” basis, with all profits donated to charity. The collaborative businesses give their time for free.
