18th November 2020 – Introducing The Locavore Growing Box!

Lockdown is hard and the fact that it’s November really doesn’t help, so we decided to push ahead with an idea we’ve had ruminating for a while – the Locavore Growing Box. The Box encompasses the whole food growing cycle, with seeds to nurture on a window sill, compost, information about seasonal wild-growing food (including a recipe and ingredients) and loads of information. We have also created a beautiful limited addition artwork to celebrate the unique quality of this time of year. Each month, we’ll update the contents of the box to reflect the changing season.

Contains:
1 limited edition wild nature print with poem by Kerry Ryan and illustration by Isabel Pina Ferreira
2 packets of seeds for growing at home
4 rehydratable organic compost pellets
Growing instructions from our Community Food Growers, Didier and Mary and a top tip from a local expert!
A history and folkloric description of this month’s edible wild plant focus – the rosehip, from Community Food Grower Bean including information about foraging and a unique recipe from Cherry Truluck.
Additional ingredients for creating Cherry’s rosehip recipe, from Folkestone’s ethical grocery and household goods supplier Re:Stock
Local delivery only.

During lockdown, we will be delivering for free within Folkestone & Hythe. The Locavore Growing Box is designed to fit through a letterbox, so delivery is completely non-contact. Deliveries take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. If you are volunteering with us, you can arrange to collect from one of our garden sites.

For every Locavore Growing Box that we sell, we’ll be making a growing kit available for free to a local household. These will mainly be distributed through Martello School, but if you would like to nominate someone who could use a bit of extra support at the moment please get in touch – locavore@customfoodlab.org
